What Are Filtration Lines?
If you have a wall to wall carpet installed in your home you will probably run into the problem of filtration lines.
But what are they? Read this article to learn about what they are and ways to prevent them.
Filtration lines are dark lines that appear along the edges of walls and under doors that are usually closed.
They are caused by the HVAC system blowing air into your room.
To equalize pressure the air being blown into the room is blown underneath doors and walls.
The carpet fibers in this area will then act like a filter trapping fine particles of dust and soot.
This is why black or dark lines appear.
Unfortunately these lines are not always removable.
The fine particles sink deep into the fiber and are difficult to remove.
Typically only about 50% or so of the soiling can be removed so the best thing to do is prevent the damage in the first place.
To prevent the damage start with the unit itself.
Make sure that the furnace is properly adjusted and that you use a good filter to trap dirt and dust.
Change this filter often.
Also try to leave doors open so that air has some place to go other than under doors and walls.
I hope this article has been of use to you.
Filtration lines are a problem that just about everybody with wall to wall carpet will have.
Once you understand how they form you can understand how to prevent them and that is really the only solution.
Good luck.
