Bissell Steam and Sweep - Worth the Cost?

The Bissell Steam and Sweep is the hottest new thing to hit the steam mop market.
It sounds appealing doesn't it? Sweep the floors and mop them at the same time.
What a time saver! But does this wondrous new machine really accomplish what it claims? Is it worth it's hefty price tag? Let's take a look and decide! The folks at Bissell have long been creating machines to help you care for you floors and carpet.
So it's not surprising that they would come up with such an innovative invention as the Bissell Steam and Sweep.
The concept is fairly simple.
The front end of the machine is a sweeper with a brush that scoops up debris and deposits it into a tray.
Directly behind the sweeper is the steam mop portion of the machine.
It works like a typical steam sweeper, with a pad to gather dirt as steam is emitted.
The Bissell Steam and Sweep has some great design features.
It has a 30 foot cord which is rather long for a steam sweeper.
It also has a removable water tank which is easier for refilling.
The water tank is also a decent size, holding 17.
5 ounces of water per fill up.
A swivel mop head makes the mop fairly easy to maneuver and the 12 inch cleaning path is pretty generous.
The machine comes with 2 microfiber mop pads which conveniently velcro on.
But there are some flaws with this idea.
Some customers report that the sweeper, which doesn't have the suction power of a vacuum, does not do a good enough job of picking up all the debris on the floor before the steam sweeper reaches it.
It seems to have a particular problem picking up pet hair and other small dust and dirt particles.
So when the steam sweeper hits it, you can be left with wet globs on the floor.
Also with many steam mops the steam comes out automatically when the steam sweeper is turned on.
With the Bissell Steam and Sweep you have to push a trigger in order for the steam sweeper portion to make steam.
Many consider this extra task to be bothersome.
Customers also complained that the Bissell Steam and Sweep was big and bulky.
Indeed, at almost 10 lbs it is twice as heavy as most steam mops and could be a little cumbersome to push around.
Another thing that needs to be addressed is the price.
The Bissell Steam and Sweep sells for at least $50 more than most of the other popular steam mops available today.
Now we must take into account that you are getting a steam mop and sweeper in one unit but since most people reported the sweeper portion didn't work all that great, is it really worth paying the extra for this added feature? A decent stick vacuum can be bought for less than $50 and does a much more effective job in my opinion.
So although some people do report liking the Bissell Steam and Sweep, I think you are better off getting a top rated steam sweeper and buying a good stick vacuum to use with it.
You will likely spend less money and will save yourself some headaches.
