Vaishno Devi Temple: The Holy Embodiment
The famous temple of the Hindu goddess Vaishno Devi is situated in Katra in Jammu and Kashmir. The shrine of Maa Vaishno Devi is located on the top of a mountain. History has it that Mata Vaishno Devi was born in to the Ratnakar family in South India. She was called by her parents as Trikuta. When she attained the age of 9, she started praying to Lord Ram. It was lord Ram who gave her the name Vaishanavi. Young Trikuta started meditating on the sea shore. Lord Ram was pleased with her penance and granted her a wish that he will take birth as Kalki in the Kaliyuga and marry her then. Meanwhile he asked her to meditate on the Trikuta ranges. He also gave her the monkey's army and lion as armour. It is believed that she became immortal forever.

Ban Ganga temple
It is said that Mata Vaishno Devi went to the Trikuta hills, where she found a thirsty tired Veer langur. The goddess felt pity on him and shot an arrow into a stone. The stone broke and gave way to a big river. The holy river is now known as Ban Ganga. Pilgrims who enter the temple also take a bath in the holy river. This temple is 3 km away from Vaishno Devi temple.
Charan Paduka temple
Charan paduka is a Sanskrit word meaning holy footprints. It is believed that the goddess took refuge in this place while escaping from Bhairon or Bhairava who was the fiercest manifestation of Lord Shiva. Her footprints are visible on a stone in this place.
Ardh Kuwari
There is a large cave known as Garbha Joon where the goddess hid herself and stayed for nine months. There she showed herself to a saint. It is believed that lord Bhairava followed her all the way to this cave. Here she made a new opening with her bow. The cave is 7.5 km away from Mata Vaishno Devi temple.
