How to Make a Child's Monster Truck
- 1). Measure the front, back and sides of a child’s wagon. Measure the length.
- 2). Cut out cardboard pieces the length of your measurements with a utility knife and cut them about 12-to-18 inches tall, depending on how tall your child is when sitting in the wagon. The front and back will resemble squares, while the sides will resemble rectangles.
- 3). Attach the front, back and side pieces of cardboard to the wagon with duct tape. Once you have these pieces attached to the wagon, secure them together along the seams with duct tape.
- 1). Cut out the small and short cab portion of the monster truck with a utility knife. The size of the cab will depend on how tall you want it to sit in front of your child and the width and length of the pieces that you have already created for your truck. In any case, you will need two side pieces for the passenger and driver windows, one back piece for the rear window of the cab and one front piece for the windshield. The cab is intended to be nonfunctional, as your child will sit in the wagon bed behind the small cab. For Halloween, this allows your child to sit comfortably, as well as get in and out of the truck bed for trick-or-treating.
- 2). Draw the window shapes for each section of the cab with a pencil on the cardboard pieces.
- 3). Attach the cab pieces of cardboard to the front of the wagon, securing them to both the wagon and the monster truck frame with duct tape.
- 1). Draw head and tail lights on the monster truck with a pencil.
- 2). Paint the frame, windows, lights and cab with acrylic paints and a paintbrush. Use black paint to “tint” the windows and bright colors to paint logos on the truck after the base coat on the truck dries.
- 3). Cut out four huge wheels out of cardboard using a utility knife.
- 4). Attach the wheels to the frame of the truck with duct tape on all four corners of the truck. The wheels must not touch the ground, but ride about 1-inch above it. The wagon wheels will actually move the truck. However, make sure that the monster truck wheels are secure on the frame so that they do not fall off easily when the wagon is in motion.
- 5). Paint the monster truck tires with acrylic paint and a paintbrush.
