How to Calculate Travel Times

    • 1). Divide the distance traveled by the average speed to find the time. For instance, if you will fly in a plane and travel 2,000 miles at 500 miles per hour: 2,000/500 = 4 hours.

    • 2). Add this travel time to the departure time to determine your estimated time of arrival. For example, if you flight leaves at 1:14 pm: 1:14 + 4:00 = 5:14 pm.

    • 3). Find the travel time by subtracting the starting time from the ending time of travel, but only use this for completed trips. For instance, if you finish a trip at 6:30 pm and left at 5:45: 6:30 - 5:45 = 45 minutes of travel time.
