The Gift of Love - How to Buy Or Prepare Dog Food For Bladder Stones

If you dog has bladder stones for the first or second time or is getting way too many urinary tract infections you might want to think about buying a better quality dog food or prepare your own.
Usually, food for dogs with bladder stones is given only if the stones are small enough to dissolve and pass through the urinary tract or you are trying to prevent the stones from forming.
Calcium oxalate stones cannot be dissolved by diet because this type of stone is not caused by the same factors as Struvite-type stones which are formed when bacteria and urea clot together and form a mass (stone).
The pH levels must be on the acidic side to avoid stones from forming.
If your dog has a genetic tendency to develop stones no amount of diet can usually prevent the problem but it can help slow down the formation of the stones.
Preparing or buying dog food for bladder stones does not have to be time consuming or expensive.
Whether you buy or prepare the food it should contain the following; 1.
Include Raw meat which helps to maintain an acidic level 2.
Make sure there is a portion of vegetables mixed in 3.
High moisture content is also key so add some type of meat broth 4.
Use no cereal and buy no product with cereal type filler (dry food) 5.
Use treats that are raw.
Specialty dog food stores have many type raw treats Stones form quickly so if you are going to make or buy dog food for bladder stones you need to act fast.
I would also add a product which can support the bladder and urinary tract.
Besides using dog food for dogs with bladder stones, the herbs Uva ursi, berberis are used in quality remedies for their treatment.
