History and Characteristics of the Chinese Pug

The Chinese Pug is one of the most interesting breed of dog you can find nowadays.
They have a very colorful history - being bred during the Shang Dynasty to sit on emperor's laps.
You can actually find many portraits painted of Chinese emperors with two pugs on either side of them.
Though the Chinese pug has evolved into different breeds that people nowadays are more familiar with such as the black pug or the more common white pug, the Chinese version is in fact the same as these more known Western pugs.
More people simply call them "Chinese Pug" because that is what they are properly called as they originated in China.
Serious breeders prefer to have the original Pugs as their pets.
There are many distinct differences in appearance that the Chinese Pug has from the Western Pug.
The breed usually has a more condensed snout than the Western pug, which makes it a little bit harder on their breathing and may cause complications.
The Chinese Pug also has shorter legs and a shorter and thicker body.
This makes them a little bit fatter than usual, so the owner must be more careful in their nutrition because if they are fed too much, their lifespan may become a little shorter.
While Western Pugs usually live up to fourteen years, the Chinese Pug usually only has twelve years depending on what type of body it has.
As aforementioned, this may be due to the breathing complications and weight issue.
So if you own a Chinese pug, make sure that you are more careful with its training and care as they are more prone to health problems than the Western pug.
