HDTV Vocabulary - What You NEED to Know!
HDTV vocabulary.
That is the problem with most of the people who do NOT buy an HDTV.
They have no HDTV vocabulary.
When they get the nerve up to go to the store and buy a HDTV, they are met by a salesperson who is speaking to them in a different language.
The salesperson talks to them about LCD, Plasma, LED, Component cables, HDMI cables, 720p, and 1080p.
To the average person, this IS a different language.
Let's see if we can decipher some of this other-worldly language for you.
First of all, the majority of these terms can be used at a later date.
When you purchase your HD television, it comes with a manual.
This manual will give you a complete summary of the available high definition terms, and what they mean.
This is when you will understand EXACTLY what the salesman is talking about.
Until then, let me give you the basic terms that you will run into in the store.
HDTV - Stands for High Definition Television.
This might seem TOO simple, but some people don't know this much.
What makes it high definition? Basically, your television has lines running horizontally and vertically.
The more lines, the higher the definition, the better and clearer the picture.
The 19-inch color TV that you grew up with was able to display up to 480 pixels of definition.
(Thats what the "P" stands for, pixels!) But the televisions nowadays can display up to 1080 lines of definition.
(I'm sure that in the future that will increase!) There are different ways to actually display the picture on a high definition television.
Plasma - One of the clearest pictures out there.
It uses actual ionized gas to display the picture! LCD - Another technology use to display high definition pictures.
This one uses "Liquid Crystal Display.
" There you have it, a small introduction into the world of high definition television.
It won't make you a rocket scientist, but it will get your foot in the door to trying to understand what the salesman is talking about!
