DIY Lamp Dimmer

    • 1). Turn off the lamp and unplug it. Remove the finial on top of the lamp by turning it counterclockwise. Lift the lampshade off the lamp. Remove the harp that supports the shade. This is done by sliding the two collars on each side of the harp upward, then squeezing the ends of the harp together and lifting.

    • 2). Unscrew and remove the light bulb. Screw the socket dimmer into the light socket on the lamp. The top of the dimmer has a threaded depression. Screw the light bulb into the depression on the top of the dimmer.

    • 3). Replace the harp by squeezing the lower ends toward each other and placing them in the grooves in the base of the harp. Slide the retention collars to the bottom of the harp. Place the lamp post back on the lamp and replace the finial. Plug in the lamp. Turn the lamp on by the switch in the socket. Adjust illumination by turning the knob on the dimmer.
