- 1). Don your leather gloves before working with tin roofing; the edges can be incredibly sharp. Use caution when handling tin-roof pieces.
- 2). Mark your cut line. If you are using right-handed shears, the off-cut will be on the left (and vice versa). Make sure your mark takes into account where the discarded material will go.
- 3). Grip the off-cut side with the vise grips or your gloved hand. Slowly work the tin snips along your line while lifting the off-cut with your other hand. Further into the cut, you may need to hold the piece down with your foot on the cut side so you can lift the off-cut side.
- 4). Cut the long, straight cuts with power shears. Use the nibblers for cross profile cuts, if you are going to purchase power tools for this job.
