The Responsibilities of a Vault Cashier

    Safe Management

    • One of the main responsibilities for a vault cashier involves the management of the contents of safes. Many businesses have special safes to keep important items or financial assets, with the vault cashier being at least one of the individuals responsible for the protection and auditing of the contents of each safe. The auditing process must be done at least once a year, and any inconsistencies the vault cashier finds must be reported to the relevant authority figures right away. Due to this level of responsibility, a vault cashier is usually one of the individuals entrusted with the combinations to each safe.

    Financial Responsibilities

    • Handling financial assets is also part of a vault cashier's main role. As well as taking control of direct day-to-day financial transactions, a vault cashier is also responsible for performing daily audits of transactions and verifying the credit ratings of customers in order to gain authorization for cash checking. In the context of vault cashiers working in a casino, their responsibilities include selling casino commodities like tokens and gambling chips to customers.

    Employee Responsibilities

    • A vault cashier has a number of other responsibilities to perform, most of which involve handling or managing money in some form. A vault cashier is responsible for transferring money from and to different safe locations within the business and, if necessary, to oversees locations. Vault cashiers have responsibility over some employees working in the same areas as themselves -- in these cases, they are required to oversee the work of these individuals, making sure that they are performing their duties properly and following the correct security procedures.

    Integrity Responsibilities

    • Because of the high degree of responsibility offered to a vault cashier, and due to the sensitive positions vault cashiers will find themselves in, certain integrity checks are required to be performed before a formal hiring process in order to determine whether or not an individual is trustworthy. These integrity checks consist of criminal background investigations and well as a drug screening. Individuals already hired as vault cashiers are also required to take random drug tests when asked.
