How to Replace Baseboard When Redoing Floors

    • 1). Measure one wall at the floor, from the inside corner to the farthest corner. Transfer these measurements to a piece of baseboard trim, putting two marks along the top of the baseboard where you plan to cut the board on each end to fit the wall.

    • 2). Set the trim on your miter saw, standing it on its long edge in the position it will sit against the wall. Move the baseboard to the first mark so it is positioned under the saw blade. Turn the blade 45 degrees pointing inward, toward the middle of the trim. Cut the piece.

    • 3). Slide the trim so the second pencil mark on the far end of the baseboard, is in front of the blade. Swivel the blade again to 45 degrees inward, toward the middle of the trim, which will be the opposite direction as before. Make the cut.

    • 4). Repeat the procedure to measure and cut pieces of baseboard trim for each of the walls around the perimeter of the floor, remembering that the end cuts angle in toward the middle of the board to abut cleanly in the corners.

    • 5). Stand the first two pieces of trim on their long edges on the floor, in place against the wall, with their mitered ends butted tightly in the corner. Drive trim nails through the top and bottom edges of each piece, every 10 inches, using your trim nailer. Install the rest of the trim pieces on the other walls in the same manner, with all the mitered corners butting to each other.
