Tahlequah is a well-situated location for campers as it is next to the Illinois River and three large lakes, Lake Tenkiller, Fort Gibson Lake and Lake Hudson. Tahlequah is located in the Ozark Hills and offers an array of outdoor activities such as river rafting, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking and bird watching. The 120-acre woodland Elephant Rock Nature Park is close by. In addition to RV and tent camping, many campsites offer cabin rentals. - The Arrowhead Resort is located on the Illinois River and is open year-round. Accommodations include ten cabins with a fireplace, outdoor picnic table and grill. All but one cabin has air-conditioning, and many have river views. Some of the one-bedroom cabins do not have bathrooms, but offer a nearby shower house. Pets and smoking are prohibited. As of October 2010, Arrowhead is the only resort in the area with paved roads, which makes for easy access to the cabins and river. The resort has an on-site general store that includes an ice-cream fountain. Arrowhead Resort is a full-service float trip outfitter for the Illinois River and offers bus transportation from pick-up and drop-off points. Kayaks, canoes and rafts can be rented for guests to explore the river on their own.
- The Burnt Cabin Marina & Resort is located on Tenkiller Lake. In addition to the campsite there are six private cabins that overlook the lake. Cabins are fully equipped and have a charcoal grill on the deck. Some of the cabins include hot tubs. The resort is on 65 acres of wilderness where guests can explore, hike or have a picnic lunch. Birdwatchers can see over 250 species of birds, including Bald Eagles. Guests can rent a pontoon boat for a relaxing day on the water while exploring limestone bluffs and small islands within the lake. The clear water and varied terrain attract thousands of scuba divers each year. There's a restaurant and store on site, and Tenkiller golf course is nearby.
- Peyton's Place is one of the original campgrounds in Tahlequah. It is located on the Illinois River and offers air-conditioned cabins with kitchenettes. Cabins sleep between two and eight people. Large camping groups can use the group lodge that has 48 beds, a meeting room, kitchen and private bathrooms. It's ideal for small meetings, conference groups or youth groups. There is a camp store on-site where rafts and canoes can be rented.
