Summer Hair Care Tips

    Add Hair Conditioner

    • Summer sun rays can affect your hair and cause damage. "Fitness" magazine advises that you apply leave-in hair conditioner. The heat helps the conditioner penetrate your hair shaft and offers all day protection. Purchase hair conditioner based on your hair type, such as dry or colored hair. You can check with your hair stylist to confirm your hair type and receive hair conditioner suggestions.

    Limit Sun Exposure

    • Your hair can become fragile with constant heat and sun exposure. If possible, only go outside in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun's heat should not penetrate your hair as intensely. If you decide to go out when the sun is stronger, spread hair conditioner from root to tip. Or, wear a hat when you go outside.

    Wear Swim Caps

    • Summer hair care includes wearing a swim cap. A swim cap prevents salt and chlorinated water from reaching your hair. After your swim, remove the cap and rinse it with warm water. Dry your cap with a towel and store it. If you go swimming without a cap, rinse out any chlorine from your hair, according to Derma Doctor.

    Visit Your Hair Salon

    • Visit your hair stylist before summer begins. The visit can reveal problem areas, such as dry scalp. You can start a hair treatment plan before more damage occurs. Your professional stylist can monitor your hair and recommend solutions. Since a hair treatment plan can take one visit or weekly visits, confirm how long the hair treatment will take.
