How Do I Clean a Linen Tablecloth?

    Lemon Juice

    • Lemon juice works perfectly for removing stains and discoloration from white linens. When a stain occurs, simply soak the entire tablecloth in a solution of one part cold water and one part lemon juice. Let it sit for two hours, rinse with cold water and hang dry. Repeat as necessary to remove stains and brighten linen tablecloths.

    Hydrogen Peroxide

    • Hydrogen peroxide also works well for cleaning white linen tablecloths. Soak the tablecloth in a basin with 2 cups of hydrogen peroxide to 1 gallon of water. Let it soak for two hours, agitating the tablecloth every 15 minutes. When the tablecloth appears cleaned and brightened, remove from the cleaning solution, rinse and hang to dry.

    Washing Machine

    • For delicate linens, wash in the washing machine on a cold-water cycle. Add a laundry detergent made for delicates, and place the linen tablecloth in a large lingerie bag, which will prevent snagging or other damage to the fabric.

    Storing Linen Tablecloths

    • It is important to store linens properly, so discoloration and mildew do not develop during storage. Always make sure the tablecloth is clean before storing, because bacteria can cause mildew growth. Store linen tablecloths in a cool, dry area that receives plenty of ventilation. This will prevent mold spores from developing, which can sometimes cause permanent discoloration on linen tablecloths.
