    Size

    • The 80U has a 42-inch screen. The actual size is 41.6 diagonal inches. The 85U has a 50-inch screen. The actual size of the screen is 49.9 diagonal inches.

    Display Resolution

    • The display resolution of the Panasonic 80U is 720 pixels (p). The Panasonic 85U has a display resolution of 1080p. Unless the viewer is seated closer than eight feet away from the screen, the difference in picture quality between the two will probably not be noticeable. More importantly, these are progressive-scan formats which transmit all the lines of resolution successively in a single pass and produce a smooth image. This is especially important when watching movement-intensive programs such as sports.

    Aspect Control

    • The 80U has five aspect controls. They are 4:3, Zoom, Full, Just and H-Fill. The 85U offers 4:3, Zoom, Full, Just and H-Fill for TV and AV modes as well. Additionally, it offers 4:3 and Full for PC mode.
