Instructions for Barn Quilts
- 1). Prime the plywood sheets by using a paint roller to paint primer onto the raw wood. Prime both sides of each sheet. Use a paintbrush to prime the edges of the plywood sheets. Let the primer dry completely.
- 2). Align the two pieces of plywood to form an 8-foot square. Transfer the quilt block pattern to the primed plywood, drawing the outlines of the block in pencil. Write the color each section should be painted inside that section.
- 3). Mask all the areas to be painted in the lightest color of your pattern by taping the lines on the pattern with painter's tape. Paint all the sections of the pattern to be painted in the lightest color in your color scheme. Pull the tape off while the paint is still slightly wet. Let the paint dry completely.
- 4). Mask and paint the remainder of the quilt block, working from the lightest color to the darkest color. For each section, paint the section, pull the tape and let the paint dry. When the entire block is painted, your barn quilt is ready to hang.
- 5). Use a pair of extension ladders and work with a partner to hang the barn quilt. Level set the first panel of the quilt barn and attach the panel to the barn by screwing one screw in each corner of the panel. Add one more screw midway between each of the corner screws. Repeat the process for the second panel.
