Homemade Fall Wedding Centerpieces
- Candles are romantic and are inexpensive when purchased at a discount store. White candles are especially inexpensive, in most instances. This is perfect for a wedding, though fall colored candles can be used also. You can go with a simple, elegant look with long-stemmed candles or make it funky and interesting by utilizing dramatic candelabras with dozens and dozens of tea light candles.
- A number of container types are appropriate for candle wedding centerpieces. Gold fish bowls and clay pots are two containers that are fairly easy to find.
You can find flat floral marbles, polished stones or colored sand at your local craft store. Use any of these to hold the candles, in place, inside of a clear fish bowl. Use one color of sand or several. Layer the sand colors (natural, orange, gold, olive and brown) to appear as inch-thick lines from the outside of the bowl. Use any long thin item, such as a crochet hook, skewer or artist's paint brush (nub end) to make a design. Push the object down into the sand, close to the inside of the bowl, and pull it up. It will bring a small portion of the sand with it, creating the design. Repeat the process around the bowl.
Clay pots can be painted on the outside. Choose a solid color acrylic paint that is part of the bridal fall color pallet. Paint and then spray it with a clear acrylic sealer. If you have an artist in the group, have them paint a design, fall flowers, fall leaves or even just stripes over the initial paint color. Tie a complimentary fall color ribbon or raffia, just under the clay pot rim, into a bow. Fill the clay pot with stones, florist marbles or sand to anchor the candles. Another option is to use the clay pot trays, instead of the pots themselves.
Use a pumpkin for a container. Cut the pumpkin in half and scoop out the insides. Use florist marbles or stones to anchor candles. Add water to the pumpkin half. Add fall flowers (sunflowers, mums and lilies) at the brim of the pumpkin. For an exceptionally dramatic look, paint the pumpkins with gold, silver or copper metal acrylic paint. - Finish your fall wedding candle centerpiece with a base of fall leaves beneath them. Collect them from outdoors or purchase silk leaves from your local craft store. Another option is to create large confetti pieces out of fall colored scrapbooking paper. Purchase a large craft punch and get to work. The shape of the confetti could be leaves, but why not hearts or just circles. Scatter the confetti on the tables, beneath the fall wedding centerpiece.
