The level of uric acid is increased in the blood due to the following reasons

Body producing excessive uric acid

Kidneys unable to filter uric acid

The high levels of uric acid leads to formation of tiny crystals of uric acid at tissues and regions near joints which causes swelling and pain.

Taking excessive alcohol

Taking of certain medicines like diuretics

Having family history of gout

Due to kidney diseases

Having excessive weight

Due to Hypertension

Diagnosis of gout

Gout diagnosis is difficult due it random behavior with uric acid levels. To diagnose gout a needle is inserted at the affected joint and synovial fluid is taken and observed under microscope to see crystals of uric acid.

Prevention of gout

People with gout should avoid eating foods which are rich in purines content like sea food, liver, kidney and certain vegetables like cauliflower, asparagus, mushrooms, oatmeal.

Avoid alcohol

Should drink more water

Eat a well balanced diet, and exercise daily to lose excess body weight
