How to Write a Wedding Reception Card
- 1). Write an opening statement on the wedding reception card. Keep the card formal in the same manner as the wedding invitation. Include the words “You are cordially invited to the wedding reception of Sam and Jennifer,” if the couple is paying for the reception. If someone else is paying for the reception, make sure that you include them first in the invitation by writing “Mr. and Mrs. Davis request the honor of your presence to celebrate the marriage of their son.”
- 2). Include the couple’s name if they are not hosting the reception. Write their names after the opening line. You will also want to include the names of the parents who are not hosting the reception as well. Write “Sam Joe to Jennifer Ann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith.” You can word it the other way around if the daughter’s parents are hosting the wedding by including the parents of the groom by writing “Jennifer Ann to Sam Joe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Davis.”
- 3). Include important information about the wedding reception afterward. You will want to inform the guests of the time, date and location of the reception. Spell out numbers and avoid using any abbreviations. For example, write “Saturday, the sixth of June Two thousand and twelve at 7 o’clock in the evening at William Fox Country Club Savannah, Georgia.”
- 4). Tell guests that that is a reception only so that they do not get confused. Reception cards are only meant to let guests know that they are invited to the reception and to inform them of the important information. State that this is only a reception and not a wedding ceremony. Include a line at the end of the reception card that states, “A private ceremony will precede the reception” so that guests know that they are invited to just the reception.
