How to Create Vector Christmas Ornaments in Illustrator

    • 1

Start by creating a circle in whatever color you'd like your ornament to be. Establish your color setting as fill and no outline.

    • 2

With your square shape tool, create the top of the ornament. It should most likely be gold or silver, but you can also make it the same color as your ornament.

    • 3

With your circle tool, create a base for the top of the ornament. If you don't get it perfect the first time, move it around or scale it to make it fit where you'd like.

    • 4

With your circle tool, create the loop that would hang from a Christmas tree. Make sure this layer has an outline and not a fill.

    • 5

Make a highlight with your circle tool. The highlight should be white or very light. You will need to move it and angle it so that it looks like the image in the example.

    • 6

To create a more complex ornament, use the previous ornament as an example. You can copy and paste this first part and start with a square of a different color. In "Object, arrange," move this part to the back.

    • 7

With your oval tool, create an ovate shape connected to the square shape you just made. This will also be the same color as the square.

    • 8

Create a shape with your pen tool that is similar to the shape in the example image. This should also be the same color as the last two shapes.

    • 9

Select the shape you just made. Copy and paste in place. Go to "Object, Transform, Reflect." This should reflect vertically. Now you have the complete ornament built.

    • 10

Establish highlights on the bottom section of the more complex ornament by creating a circle that is similar to the highlight on the ball ornament. This should also be a white or a very light color.

    • 11

Follow the first small highlight with two consecutive small ones on both circular shapes, as in the example image.
