Saving Money On Your Utility Bills
I decided to take a look at all my utility bills closer. On my cable package I removed $40.00 of premium channels that we never watched. I turned off my land line and am now just using my cell phone. All total I cut out $80.00 a month on this.
Next I went on to my water bill. We have automatic sprinklers that come on three times a week. I now manually turn them on twice a week for less time and my grass is still beautiful. Actually it seems to be growing thicker and better than it did before.
I have asked my kids to be aware of their shower time. Just explaining to them that it cost money has made them more conservative.
My electricity and gas are on the same bill. I really had to get creative on the electricity. In addition to again making my kids aware that it cost money, I decided to use lots of candles at night. I bought hanging candle chandeliers that I use tea lights in. Tea lights last about 6 hours, which is about all you need once the sun goes down until bedtime. I bought different styles of old candle jars and lined them up on my fireplace mantle. The effect of all of them lit at one time is stunning. Not only was I saving money, my home felt warm and inviting. If I lit at least one nice candle from Bella Lume in each room the fragrance was intoxicating. In the other jars and candle chandeliers I used unscented tea lights so that it would not compete with the scents of my Bella Lume candles.
I ended up cutting my electricity bill in half and also made my home much more relaxing for my husband and kids.
There are many ways to save if you look for them. I remember when utilities were just an incidental expense. Now we could actually make a nice payment on a new BMW for what we are throwing away each month.
We have turned into a society that believes it needs the excessive. Sometimes things as simple as soft candlelight can make a huge difference not only in your bills but also in the way that you and your family feel in your home.
