Goal Setting & Motivation Guidance Activities for Elementary Children

    Money Management

    • Learning how to manage money from an early age can teach children to be responsible with their finances later in life. For this activity, ask your students to think of an item they want to purchase, such as a bike, video game or a shirt. Instruct them to come up with a list of ways they can earn money in their house or community, such as helping their mom with cleaning the house or raking leaves for a neighbor. Help your students come up with a goal of how much money they want to save each week, and track it on a graph.

    Creating a Plan For Success

    • This activity teaches students how to plan out their goals in an organized way. Ask your students to think of two goals they want to set for the year, such as making the honor roll. Instruct them to write down steps on how they plan to achieve their goals. Also have the students make a deadline for their goals, and list the obstacles they went through to achieve their goals.

    Drawing Your Goals

    • This activity requires a piece of paper, a pencil and several crayons or markers. Ask your students to draw a picture of what they think their lives will be like in 10 years. Encourage them to use their imagination while drawing a picture. For example, one student can draw a picture of himself getting ready for his first day of college. When all the children are finished, ask them to present their drawings in front of the class.

    Career Interview

    • For this activity, ask your student to interview a family member who has a career that they admire. Instruct them to come up with a list of questions, such as how long they've had their career and the type of education and training they received. After they finish their interviews, instruct them to write a one-page paper of what they learned.
