How to Install Jets on Whirlpool Tubs

    • 1). Purchase whirlpool jets from a tub manufacturer, spa supply store or home improvement store. Not all jets are the same; purchase jets to fit the specific make and model of the tub.

    • 2). Shut off the water supply and power to the whirlpool tub. Shutting off the water and power supply eliminates the risk of potential flooding and electrical shock.

    • 3). Detach the jet from the water pipe. Jets should be removed from pipes inside the tub. Pipes can be reached through the access panel, located on the bottom side or top edge of the tub, depending on the manufacturer. Place a wrench at the base of the jet and adjust the wrench to create a snug fit around the fitting. Turn the wrench counter-clockwise to loosen the jet from the pipe. Continue to turn the wrench until the jet is free from the pipe.

    • 4). Remove old jets. The method for removal of old jets depends on the style of jet for the specific make and model of tub. Some jets can be removed by grasping the exterior of the jet and turning counter-clockwise; other jets can be popped out by grasping the outer edge of the jet and pulling straight out from the surface of the tub. Some styles of jets require the removal of screws located on the back of the jet before the jet can be extracted. The back of the jet can be reached through the access panel.

    • 5). Install new jets. New jets should be installed in the same manor the old jets were removed, or in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Installation instructions are usually included in the packaging accompanying the new jet.

    • 6). Secure the jet to the pipe. Dry off the pipe with a towel. Wrap plumber's tape around the threaded end of the pipe. Place the jet on the threaded end of the pipe. Place a wrench at the base of the new jet. Adjust the wrench to tighten around the fitting of the new jet and turn clockwise to secure it to the pipe. Continue to turn until the jet is firmly positioned on the pipe.

    • 7). Turn on the water and the electric supply to the tub. Fill the tub with water and activate the jets to test for jet function and leakage.
