Walking the Squares & Historic Streets of Savannah Georgia
Have you ever visiting a city and said, "I could live here"? After returning home from a recent trip to Savannah Georgia I said exactly that to my Wife.
So what makes Savannah such an attractive place? It's more in "the feel" or "vibe".
Some cities have "the feel" which includes New Orleans, Charleston SC and Memphis to name a few.
It's better described as a character all their own, whose residents embrace the past, history that has taken place there, and are fierce defenders of the preservation of their culture.
Savannah was established in 1733 and wears its age with pride.
The city has been referred to as a living history lesson or time-capsule because of the celebrated preservation efforts of its residents.
This world-class city hosts over 6.
5 million visitors per year because of its Southern charm, vast and interesting history, hospitality, beautiful architecture, gardens, flora and breath-taking beauty.
Recommended for a first-time visitor is to put on a comfortable pair of shoes and just walk the city and its famous squares.
Savannah was laid out with 24 squares (22 survive today) which are beautiful.
Each square is different and has everything from fountains, Spanish moss strewn live oaks to majestic mansions, business and churches that are architecturally awe inspiring.
One of the first things that I like to do when visiting a new city is to see if they have any self-guided walking tours.
Cities that have an abundance of history tend to have them and Savannah is no exception.
Many of the guided walking tours cost quite a bit and don't seem to cover a lot of ground, are limited or slowed up by questions from other tour goers and weather conditions.
Taking a self guided tour is more free, doesn't depend on the weather, and I can take breaks or stop when you want.
