    Health Information for Quality Improvement Act

    • The intention of the Health Information for Quality Improvement Act was to create an Office of National Healthcare Information Infrastructure and a Medical Systems Safety Initiative. Both of these groups were to collect information in order to better understand how technology could be used to increase the efficiency of the care of older patients and the distribution of prescription drugs.

    Health Information Technology Act of 2005

    • The intention of the Health Information Technology Act of 2005 was to provide incentives to private health care businesses that would reward them for improving their technology systems. Additionally, the act would require the Secretary of Health and Human Service to publish reports on the progress of businesses in improving their health care technology.

    History

    • The Health Information for Quality Improvement Act was introduced in the Senate by Sen. Hillary Clinton on Dec. 9, 2003. The Health Information Technology Act was introduced in the Senate by Sen. Debbie Ann Stabenow on Jun. 13, 2005. Neither act was voted on by the Senate, and thus neither act became law.
