Solar Lighting Ideas For Your Home

A homeowner should choose to invest in solar lighting for their outdoor lighting for several reasons. Many people might consider lighting the outside of your home when you are not there or when you are inside a waste, but solar lighting helps to make that a non issue. You are not wasting any resources to light the outside of your home if you use solar lighting. Another positive of solar lighting is that there are no cords to cause tripping hazards or to worry about damaging when shoveling snow or attending to your garden. Finally, outdoor lighting makes your home more beautiful and appealing to passersby. That means that your home will have a greater resale value than if you do not have outdoor lighting. There are several types of outdoor solar lighting fixtures that you can choose for your home.

The most common solar lighting idea is to install pathway light fixtures. Lighting your walkway is important for two reasons. First, you want your guests to be able to see where they are going when approaching and leaving your home. Second, if you have a well lit path, people will be less likely to walk on your lawn. Solar pathway lights are usually small light fixtures on top of stakes that stick into the ground. You can install them on either side of the walkway at regular intervals so the entire path is well lit. In addition to providing light on your walkway, these light fixtures can also be decorative.

A second application for solar lighting is in decorative garden lighting. There are two reasons that you might need garden lighting. One is to accent some part of the garden at night and the other is if the lights are decorative items themselves. If you are trying to illuminate something particularly nice about your garden at night you have two options. First, you can have solar light fixtures disguised as rocks. The rock will look inconspicuous during the day and will shine light upward at night. The second option is a statue of some kind. During the day it is decorative by itself but at night it shines light on some part of the garden. Gnomes and small animals like rabbits or frogs are popular choices.

If your garden lights themselves are supposed to be the decoration, then there are two possibilities that you can explore. The first is small single LED light fixtures that are in the shape of insects or butterflies. This style of solar light sets comes attached to the ends of wire sticks that can be pushed into the ground all around the garden. At night they light up is an array of colors for decoration. The other type of decorative solar light fixture is a globe light. Globe lights are balls that either stand on pedestals or on top of water. They come in many different colors and some even change color. They can be decorative both during the day when they are not lit and at night when they are.

The last solar lighting idea that I would like to discuss is solar security lighting. Security lighting is only supposed to turn on when there is someone or something close to your home. Therefore, most security lights are motion sensitive. You should install solar lights for security purposes above doorways or windows so that they can turn on and startle any would be intruders. But security lighting can also provide security to the homeowner in another way. They will turn on when you come home or when you are leaving your house so that your path is well lit when you are going to and from your car.
