How to Use Mulch & Weed Block

- 1). Dig a 2-inch deep trench around the outside edge of the garden bed. Place the soil removed from the trench outside the bed.
- 2). Lay the weed block over the bed, smoothing it so it is in full contact with the soil. If you have perennial plants already in the garden, cut a hole in the fabric with scissors and slip the fabric over each plant.
- 3). Push the edges of the weed block into the trench. Refill the trench with the removed soil, anchoring the weed block down so it doesn't pull up.
- 4). Cut holes in the fabric for each new plant you are placing in the bed. Plant through the holes in the fabric.
- 5). Spread an organic or inorganic mulch over the top of the fabric. Apply a 3-inch layer of organic mulch or a 1- to 2-inch layer of inorganic mulch.
