    • Eggs get a makeover at several Denver breakfast stops.breakfast image by Wolfgang Zintl from Fotolia.com

It is considered the most important meal of the day, so why settle for cereal or toast and a cup of coffee for breakfast? Plenty of wonderful new concoctions and twists on everyday favorites exist--especially if you're heading to Denver for business or pleasure. There you'll find several breakfast restaurants that will serve up American cuisine or introduce you to early-morning delights from other parts of the world.

    Lucile's Creole Café

    • You may be in the Mile High City, but this charming little café will transport your taste buds to the deep South. Aiming to be one of the premier brunch restaurants in the country, Lucile's Creole menu is anything but ordinary. You can get homemade grits with any breakfast entrée, such as the Cajun Breakfast (red beans, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce) or Eggs Pontchartrain (fresh pan-fried mountain trout, poached eggs and bernaise sauce). Add a cup of chicory coffee or an order of beignets, New Orleans-style donuts.

    Tuscany Coffee & Deli

    • A cross between a New York-style deli and trattoria (a casual Italian-style restaurant), Tuscany's is committed to offering the freshest ingredients from local vendors. Their breakfast menu features oatmeal, yogurt, sandwiches and open-faced bagels. Try the one topped with roasted red pepper hummus, tomatoes and cucumbers. Their specialty, however, is Italian Espresso, created by their baristas by hand with manual machines just like in Italy.

    The House of Commons

    • This quaint restaurant doesn't open until 10 a.m., but your growling stomach will thank you. Their menu features fresh sandwiches and salads with titles such as Big Ben (roast beef, horseradish or mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato and English cucumber) and Westminster (honey-baked ham, Irish cheddar, tomato, cucumber and mixed greens). You can also choose the quiche of the day or the delicious scones with jam & Devonshire cream. Their claim-to-fame, though, is their selection of teas, many of which are imported from Yorkshire, England.

    Annie's Café

    • For a hearty slice of Americana, Annie's Café is the place to be on any given morning. Hot oatmeal, omelets, biscuits and gravy, and buttermilk pancakes dot the menu--and fill the restaurant with wonderful smells. There are also homemade muffins and coffee cake, and some options from the bar, such as the Chambery (cranberry juice and champagne), to top off your breakfast. As a bonus, you'll enjoy the old-fashioned décor, with tin lunch boxes and neon signs, and the penny-candy sold at the counter.
