Apart from the enchanting dance forms and other art form, Kerala is equally known worldwide for its popular martial art form called Kalaripayattu. It is often reffered to as the "mother of all martial arts". The founder of Kalaripayattu, Parasurma, is believed to have founded a temple in Kerala around 3000 years ago, after defending it from the ocean to save the coastline. Hence, Kalaripayattu was established to fend the temple from evil forces. It is believed that the legendary monk Bodhidharma from Kanchipuram, was a proponent of Kalaripayattu, who later introduced it in china, where it became the present day Kung Fu.
