- 1). Take the items outdoors on a warm, sunny day. Allow the items to sit all day, or even overnight when possible, to naturally air out.
- 2). Sprinkle a coating of baking soda over the items to assist in odor absorption. This works well for both hard and soft items, and the baking soda naturally neutralizes the musty odor plus collects any moisture that may be causing the odor.
- 3). Tap the items to knock off the baking soda, or use a vacuum to collect the baking soda from fabric items such as upholstered furniture.
- 4). Fill a spray bottle with an equal mixture of water and white vinegar. Mist this spray over musty items to deodorize further. After the vinegar smell fades, the musty smell should be gone as well.
