How to Make an Origami Rose Bud
- 1). Measure and draw a square on a piece of paper, ensuring the four sides are identical in length. Cut along the lines carefully with scissors. Keep the size of each side 3 to 5 inches long, depending on the desired size of the finished rose bud. However, skip this step if the paper is already square.
- 2). Position the square paper on a flat, hard table so its corners point upward, downward and sideways, like a diamond. Carefully fold the diamond paper lengthwise in half, ensuring the edges meet. Sharpen the fold with a ruler so it is visible. Unfold the paper and turn the other half back over.
- 3). Fold the diamond paper horizontally in half, ensuring its upper and lower tips meet. Sharpen the fold with a ruler to define it. Unfold the paper back to its original shape.
- 4). Fold the top tip of the paper downward so it falls in the middle. Repeat the procedure for folding the remaining three tips toward the center of the diamond paper.
- 5). Turn the folded paper over so its top tip meets the lower tip, forming an inverted triangle.
- 6). Fold the right tip of the triangle downward to meet the bottom tip, forming a smaller triangle that points to the right. Fold this smaller triangle vertically in half so its upper tip joins the lower tip. Turn the paper over and repeat the process of folding the left tip to form another smaller triangle. The resultant shape is a small diamond.
- 7). Fold the lower tip of the diamond upward so it meets the top tip. However, instead of folding all the layers along the lower half the diamond, only fold one layer upward. Flip the paper over and repeat the fold along the other side, forming a triangle.
- 8). Fold the right tip of the paper so it touches the right edge, then unfold again. Also fold the tip to the edge at the back of the paper, then unfold. Insert your finger between the flap inside the triangle, and your thumb under the right tip. Press the paper up so the tip folds along the creases. Flip the triangle and repeat the process of folding the left tip over the middle of the left edge.
- 9). Insert your thumb and pointer inside the base of the forming rose bud. Press in on the sides to open the bud. Fold back the tips of the outer triangle to the center.
