Removing Vinyl Stickers

    About Removing Vinyl Stickers

    • Vinyl stickers are fun to stick on, but can be a pain to remove, especially when they are stuck onto a car or bike. Vinyl stickers are made for a variety of causes, such as a sports team, a cause, a slogan or school. Before putting vinyl stickers onto your car, be aware that if they are made to withstand the elements, they will probably be very difficult to remove and could do damage to your car's paint job. There is no professional service for getting stickers removed, so unfortunately you will probably need to do it yourself and risk chipping the paint. The sticker may tear and will probably not be reusable after removing.

    Removing Vinyl Stickers

    • To remove vinyl stickers from your car, bike or other outdoor object, take a hairdryer and plug it into an outdoor outlet. Take care that there is no water near the outlet and the cord does not stretch into a puddle. Heat the vinyl sticker, taking care not to heat any painted surfaces or else the paint will chip. As you heat the sticker, begin to pull very slowly with your fingernails. If you still have difficulty removing the sticker, prepare a solution of one part rubbing alcohol and one part hot water. Use a wet rag to saturate the sticker and attempt to lift it from the surface. If the sticker still does not budge, saturate the sticker in the alcohol/water solution for several minutes and the removal will be easier.

    Warnings About Removing Vinyl Stickers

    • Do not use harsh chemicals to remove vinyl stickers, as they will damage the paint on your car or bike. Do not attempt to peel the sticker with a razor blade or any other sharp object. Anything sharper than a fingernail may cause permanent damage to the paint. If you are using a hairdryer outdoors, do not use it in the vicinity of water, including the alcohol/water solution. If you are going to use the solution, unplug the hairdryer and put it away.
