Make Mother" s Day Special With Homemade Gifts

Mother's Day was invented by Anna Jarvis in 1912 through her Mother's Day International Society. She coined the terms "The Second Sunday In May" and "Mother's Day" as a way of celebrating motherhood. She specified the spelling of "Mother's" so it would be a singular possessive, for each family to honor their mother. It was not meant to commemorate all mothers in the world. In fact, when President Woodrow Wilson made it an official holiday he was careful to honor Anna's spelling of Mothers in keeping with Annas wishes.

What started out a modest way to thank our mothers has turned into a billion dollar industry that includes cards, gifts, flowers and brunch. But in today's economy, purchasing a gift might seem like an extravagance that you can't justify. Why not use a little creativity and get the whole family involved in making a Mother's Day beauty gift. At Recipes4Living we have hundreds of beauty recipes from soap to potpourri. All that you need to do is find a pretty basket or box and you've created a cherished keepsake for any mother, daughter or grandmother.
