How to Eliminate Moles From Your Yard & Garden
- 1). Install mole traps inside the mole tunnels. Find an active mole tunnel. Carefully dig out the top of a section of the tunnel. Set the mole trip inside the middle of the tunnel. Push the stakes of the trap into the ground inside the tunnel. Pull the spring loaded plunger up to set the mole trap. Cover the top of the tunnel around the trap with loose soil. Check the trap each morning and evening to see if the plunger has fired and you have a mole. It is a good idea to use several mole traps in your yard, especially if you have multiple tunnels.
- 2). Flood the mole tunnels. Locate a mole hill at the end of a tunnel. Find the small hole at the base of the mole hill--this is likely the entrance. Insert a garden hose into the tunnel. Turn the water on all the way and flood the tunnels. Allow the hose to flood the tunnel for several minutes. Watch the areas around the mole hill for moles to surface through the water. Move the hose to another section of mole tunnels and continue flooding them. Catch any moles that come to the surface. Place the moles in a bucket of soil, and transplant them to a wooded area far away from your yard.
- 3). Apply mole repellent to your yard. Attach a sprayer filled with mole repellent to your garden hose. Turn on the water. Spray your yard thoroughly with the repellent. The mole repellent contains a chemical that will kill the grubs on which moles feed. Once your yard does not have enough grubs to sustain the moles, they will likely move to another area with more food. Spray the soil in your garden as well.
