Pittsburgh Labor Day Activities 2015



On Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, celebrate the holiday in Pittsburgh with parades, history, live music, festivals, and American cuisine. Even the Vice President will join in Pittsburgh’s tribute to American labor this year.

Downtown Labor Day Parade
Downtown
10 a.m.
The giant annual Labor Day parade, which features trade unions, floats, bands, and dancing, will travel through downtown from Liberty Avenue at 11th Street down Grant Street to Boulevard of the Allies to Stanwix Street.


Vice President Joe Biden will march in the parade this year. Head to the parade route early to secure a spot of sidewalk with a good view.

USS LST 325
North Shore
9 a.m. -- 5 p.m.
USS LST 325, a ship present at Omaha Beach for D-Day in 1944, is docked along the North Shore near Heinz Field through Sept. 8 and open for tours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The USS LST 325is the last fully operational WW II LST (Landing Ship, Tank). The memorial ship is a non-profit organization created by veterans seeking to honor the LSTs and those who served on them. The group also strives to preserve the ship for future generations and to teach the public about the importance of these vessels during World War II, as well as during the wars in Korea and Vietnam.
Tour pricing: Adults: $10. Ages 6-17: $5. Ages 5 and under: Free. Family (two adults and minor children): $20.

“Bridges in the Burgh” Bike Tour

Bike the Burgh Tours is hosting a special, three-hour Labor Day tour examining the beautiful bridges of Pittsburgh.

The tour will cover the history of Pittsburgh bridges, including their age, their naming conventions, and more details. The tour spans nine miles.

Rib Fest
North Shore
Noon -- 8 p.m.
More than a dozen rib vendors will be on-site for Heinz Field Rib Fest, serving BBQ specialties. The event also includes games, amusement park rides, and music. Two free concerts on Labor Day are: Tres Lads, an acoustic trio, at 3:30 p.m. and Eric Paslay, a country singer, at 5:30 p.m.
Event admission is free; food and drink are available for purchase.

Mellow Mondays
Downtown
Noon -- 1 p.m.
Weekly concert series Mellow Mondays presents free live acoustic music outdoors in Market Square during lunchtime. Greg Iskat will perform this week.

Outside of the city:
In nearby Westmoreland County, two festivals will celebrate Labor Day -- Pennsylvania
Arts & Crafts Labor Day Festival at Westmoreland Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m and Labor United Celebration at Northmoreland Park from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
