The Best Way to Shave Crayons
- 1). Peel crayon wrappers away from the crayon with your fingers before beginning.
- 2). Hold the sharpener over a piece of wax paper or a small container to catch the shavings. Insert the end of the crayon into a handheld pencil sharpener and twist it in a clockwise direction to sharpen.
- 3). Shave small crayon pieces -- that won't fit into the pencil sharpener -- with a vegetable peeler. Hold the crayon in the fingers of one hand. Hold the vegetable peeler in the other hand and shave the crayon in a downward motion with the peeler.
