Time Stands Still in Montenegro Budva!
For centuries, ancient Greek & Roman Civilization is wonderfully preserved in the Montenegro Budva.
These remains are in the beautiful Budva was accidentally discovery.
The first glimpse to this lost world was found during the foundation lying of Hotel Avala.
The most important discoveries happened during the late 70s which made these the largest well kept graveyard of ancient Greek times to be found in the Europe.
The excavation unearthed the 450 graves, among these grave many priceless ceramics, weapons, jewelry have been found.
The time period of first Greek layer 1st BC, the second layer contained the remains of the 2nd century AD.
The later grave contains the graves with ceramic, glass or stone urns that contain the cremated remains.
The amount of the items that are fully classified and put to the Museum are fraction of the total wealth of history that was found.
During the earlier discovery the place was favorite hunting ground for tomb raiders, the antique black marketers, due to this reason much of the treasure is actually residing in Belgrade, Split, and private collections.
There are however many magnificent items on display in the Budva Archeological Museum.
Illyrian bronze has to be the oldest piece in the museum, with approximate age of 5th BC.
There are also several ceramics, pottery, and utensils of Hellenistic period.
These have the darker almost gothic patrons, it is said that many of these pieces are the inspiration for later art work, and fashion trends in Europe.
The visit to museum will delight you to see the full scale of life at that time, on the three different floors.
