- 1). Consider a situation in your life. Recognize the emotion that you possess immediately upon thinking about it. Work to become comfortable with each feeling that comes up by recognizing individual emotional instances. Give yourself permission to feel the way you naturally do.
- 2). Acknowledge the root of the emotion to make sure you are emotionally recognizing the actual situation.
- 3). Listen to your body and the natural signals it sends you. Pay attention to these signals to figure out ways to prevent emotional stress and increase feelings of happiness.
- 4). Journal daily about the emotional situations you experience to prevent yourself from substituting feelings as life goes on.
