• Omacor can reduce production of triglycerides, a type of fat found in the bloodstream. High triglyceride levels can lead to cardiovascular disease and a higher risk of stroke, as well as inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis.)
  
  

Gastrointestinal Effects

• Most side effects associated with Omacor are gastrointestinal. They include abdominal pain, constipation or diarrhea, nausea, upset stomach and burping.
  
  

Skin Disorders

• Skin disorders are another possible side effect from Omacor, including acne and eczema.
  
  

Increased Bleeding

• Omacor may increase bleeding slightly. People taking blood thinners (anticoagulants) to prevent blood clots may not be able to take Omacor.
  
  

Liver Considerations

• Because Omacor affects the liver by decreasing the amount of triglycerides the liver produces, people with decreased liver function may not be able to take Omacor.
  
  

Allergic Reactions

• Omacor is derived from fish oil, so people allergic to fish must not use this medicine. Allergic reaction signs include hives, difficulty breathing, throat closing, and swelling of the face, lips or tongue.
