Tools for Installing Laminate

    Utility or Craft Knife

    • Utility knives are useful for cutting laminate products such as veneers. They are used to make precise cuts and score thicker laminate products. For example, scoring and then snapping scored lines is a technique that works well when cutting plastic laminate. Special blades also are available for completing laminate projects.

    Handsaw

    • A fine-tooth handsaw is used for straight-edge and trim cuts with laminates. Another handsaw, called a coping saw, comes equipped with a special blade used to cut detailed shapes in moldings, laminates and other woodworking projects. Use also might want to use a file to smooth out rough or sharp edges after using a handsaw.

    Laminate Shears

    • Laminate shears are designed to cut plastic laminates and veneers. They come in handy in kitchen and bathroom Formica projects and are for detailed cuts as well as trimming excess laminate and tidying up edge banding.
