How to Write Permissions for MEPIS

    Change Directory Permissions

    • 1). Click the blue "Dolphin" icon on the bottom panel to launch the file manager.

    • 2). Use the file manager to locate the directory you will change permission for. Move the mouse pointer over the directory, but do not click.

    • 3). Right-click on the directory, then click the menu option, "Properties." Click on the "Permissions" tab.

    • 4). Click on the down caret of the "Owner" tab. Change owner permissions if necessary. Do the same for the "Group" and "Others" permissions. Change the ownership of the directory if necessary by clicking the down caret in the "Ownership" section of the Permissions dialog.

    • 5). Check the box labeled "Apply Changes to all subfolders and their content" to apply your permission changes to the entire directory. Click the "OK" button when you are done.

    Change File Permissions

    • 1). Click the blue "Dolphin" icon on the bottom panel to launch the file manager.

    • 2). Use the file manager to locate the file for which you want to change permissions. Move the mouse pointer over the file, but do not click.

    • 3). Right-click on the file, then click the menu option "Properties." Click on the "Permissions" tab.

    • 4). Click on the down caret of the "Owner" tab. Change owner permissions, if necessary. Do the same for the "Group" and "Others" permissions. Change the ownership of the file if necessary by clicking the down caret in the "Ownership" section of the Permissions dialog.

    • 5). Check the box labeled "Is executable" if the file is an application. Click the "OK" button when you are done.
