Time Warner Cable’s email service is named Road Runner, not Time Warner, so your SMTP settings must reflect the Road Runner name. Just because your computer is able to receive mail, it will not be able to send mail if your SMTP settings are not correct. Understand that in both Outlook and in all other email clients, the SMTP settings must be entered to conform to TWC’s requirements. - The correct SMTP settings specified by Time Warner are required in order for all outgoing mail to be sent through Outlook. The SMTP settings are configured as follows:
smtp-server.domain.rr.com
Road Runner mail doesn’t require that any of the SMTP authentication options be enabled. In addition, all of the advanced security options in the SMTP settings should be disabled, which is the default in Microsoft Outlook. - Outlook, which is the mail component of the Microsoft Office suite, must be configured before you are able to send and/or receive mail. This involves launching Outlook and selecting “Accounts” under the “Tools” menu. You then configure the SMTP settings under the “Servers” tab. Fortunately, the settings in Outlook are “set and forget,” so once they are properly configured, you don’t have to reenter them.

It’s important to note that Time Warner customers, along with those of all other Internet Service Providers (ISPs), must configure SMTP settings that are recognized by the cable provider you’re currently connected to. So even if you’re a Comcast Cable customer, but the office you are in is connected to the Internet using Time Warner, you must change your SMTP settings to reflect the ISP you’re currently connected to.
