How to Earn Money Using a Metal Detector

    • 1). Purchase a metal detector. A standard model will cost you about around $100 to $200. You don't need an expensive model, as a standard model does more than a good job finding coins and jewelry (see Resources below).

    • 2). Take your metal detector to public beaches. It is best to go at night right after all of the beachgoers have left. Many times money and jewelry slip out of people's bag and they never even now it.

    • 3). Use your metal detector in other public places. These would include parks, zoos, sports arenas and the sidewalks around town.

    • 4). Find a local jewelry and antique dealer that you can become friends with and sell them the items you find. You can take all loose change to the bank, but you will need the jewelry and antique dealer to tell you what the items you found are worth, and have them make you an offer.

    • 5). Offer your services by placing an ad in the newspaper. Offer to do your metal detecting for private individuals on their property for a fee. The fee can be a set amount or a percentage of what you find. If you get enough clients, this could earn you a full-time income.
