How to Make a Hemp Braided Choker
- 1). Wrap one strand of hemp around your neck (or the neck of the intended recipient) to determine the correct length for the choker. Cut the strand to this length. You want the choker to fit snugly, but comfortably, around the neck. Tape the strand down on your workspace to serve as a measuring guide.
- 2). Cut three additional strands of hemp to approximately twice the length of your measuring guide strand. Hold the three strands together, matching the ends up evenly. Tie the three longer hemp strands together in a knot approximately two inches from the top of the bundle.
- 3). Tie one end of your jewelry clasp onto the two-inch ends, securing it to the hemp choker. Jewelry clasps come in a variety of sizes and can be purchased at most craft stores.
- 4). Tape the clasp and the two-inch ends of hemp above the knot down to your work surface next to the measuring strand.
- 5). Spread the three strands of hemp out in front of you so that one strand is situated in the middle of the bundle and the second and third strands are lying to its left and right sides.
- 6). Cross the strand on the right over the strand in the middle so the two strands exchange places. Cross the strand on the left over the stand that is now in the middle so the two strands exchange places.
- 7). Continue crossing the right and then left strands of hemp over the center strand until your braided hemp choker is the same length as your original measuring strand.
- 8). Tie the three strands together in a knot at the bottom of your braided hemp choker to secure it. Tie the second end of your jewelry clasp onto the end of the choker below the bottom knot. Trim off any excess hemp under the bottom clasp. Wrap the braided hemp choker around the neck of the wearer, and clasp the two ends of the jewelry clasp together.
