How to Test if the Color of Light Affects Plant Growth

    • 1). Cut a four-inch wide circle in the top of your cubic boxes using your box cutters. The hole should be one inch larger than the width of your plant grow light bulbs.

    • 2). Wrap your plant grow light bulbs in your red or green plastic colored film. Secure the film with three to five rubber bands around the base of the light bulb. Leave one bulb uncovered.

    • 3). Arrange your boxes with the hole side facing up in a location where they will not be disturbed and away from natural sunlight.

    • 4). Place a potted plant into the center of each box. Replace the lid on the box.

    • 5). Set up your lamps so the bulbs face directly down into the boxes. It is not necessary that the bulb enters the box, but it should be close to the hole cut in the top of the box.

    • 6). Simulate the plant's natural environment by turning the lamps on when it is light outside and turning the lamps off when it is dark outside. Be sure your plant's soil is moist at all times.
