Elk Hunting in Hazard, Kentucky
- The state of Kentucky holds a lottery each year to pick those who will be allowed to hunt elk in the fall. Special youth permits are also available for the youth season in late September.
- Elk hunting season is in the fall between early October and mid-January. The KDFWR divide the hunting season by type of weapon, sex of the animal and whether the animal has antlers.
- Before hunting elk, a hunter must have a valid hunting license and an elk hunting permit which is only available to those selected in the lottery. The KDFWR allows each hunter to bag only one elk per season.
- Robinson Forest and the Buckhorn Lake Wildlife Management Area are the two largest public areas for elk hunting. Drawn hunters must submit their first three choices for elk hunting locations to their Elk Hunting Unit.
