The Use of Manikin Simulators

    Teaching Use

    • Manikins assist with teaching and learning methods because they allow the student a hands on opportunity to work with a patient who will suffer no ill effects in the event of a mistake. Specialized manikins are available for CPR training, choking rescue training and emergency room training.

    Manikin Types

    • Simulators are available in a variety of different options, from men, women and children, to obese models and manikins with removable body parts for internal work. Different skin colors are available, as well as models that can convert from adult to child simulators.

    Advantages

    • Many manikin simulators are available with various feedback systems, which immediately alert the student to signs of trouble. Audible and visual feedback allow instant correction, while some models provide the option to connect with a computer to record and discuss results later.
