How to Remove Old Dog Urine
- 1). Use a wet vacuum to treat the stain. If you don't have one, these cleaners can be found at home furnishing stores, hardware stores, and even grocery stores. They will help to penetrate the stain much more effectively than cleaner and a sponge can. They will also help suck out any dirty stain residue, whereas a sponge and cleaner will leave some behind. Wet vacuums also work on upholstery if that is where the stain has set.
- 2). Apply a specialized odor neutralizing treatment to the stain. Most pet stores will have those treatments made especially to treat animal urine stains. Follow all instructions, especially safety ones, on the specific neutralizer you purchase and make sure the area is dry before treatment, as wet vacuums can leave area damp.
- 3). Repeat the odor neutralizer treatment in another 24 hours. Sometimes one treatment of neutralizer won't rid the smell, and while you may not be able to smell the stain anymore, your canine may be able to and may return to re-mark their spot.
