How to Eat Healthy As a Vegetarian
- 1). If you want to eat a healthy vegetarian diet, you must pay close attention to your protein intake. Most people are able to get their daily intake from meat, eggs and dairy products. Cutting this out means you have to obtain your protein from other sources. Nuts, beans and soy products like tofu are the most common substitutes for a vegetarian diet. You can also include cheese in your diet but risk a high fat intake along with it.
- 2). Whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables will be the main ingredients of your healthy vegetarian diet. Unless you chose a Vegan diet, you are allowed to eat eggs and dairy products as a source of protein. However if you are including dairy products in your diet, you'll want to stick to low-fat or non-fat varieties.
- 3). There are restrictions you must accept if you decide to eat a healthy vegetarian diet. You must watch your fat intake and cooking for yourself is the better option for all meals. Keep in mind that a vegetarian diet does not always mean a healthy diet. Eating less meat or no meat does mean you are necessarily eating less fat. The key is to monitor everything you put on your plate.
